Website Tag Field Character Limit

What is the character limit for what you can have inside a website tag field?

I have a custom website tag that displays the swatches of my items in the category and item pages. I am now getting an error to delete charters in that field. The error I get:
“You have exceed the length limit for this field. Please shorten by xxx characters”.

I don't see anything in the help file on the length.
