nlapiLoadRecord().getField() throws 'undefined' error

I am loading a record which I can successfully get field values using the record object's getFieldValue method, however when I try to use the method getField, it is throwing an 'undefined' error.

Has something changed in the system? The documentation states this is a valid method of nlobjRecord but is not working. Can swear it was yesterday.

Anyone else experiencing?
