checkout errors

We've been having complaints from customers all afternoon that get an error when they hit the final submit button during checkout.  The order actually comes through but the customer gets an error message.   

It doesn't happen on all orders, just orders that contain matrix items or items with options.

Anyone else having checkout issues?
