Change lot numbers of current inventory?

Is it possible to change the lot numbers of current inventory?

I've got a situation where we need to track lot numbers using a new method, and I want to go back and change current inventory to use the new method.

It looks like I can change it on the Item Receipt, but not on the lot number record.  Unfortunately this wont work for me because I have receipts from closed periods that cannot be modified.

Any suggestions?
