Payroll Report Throws Unexpected Error

When I try to run a Payroll Summary by Employee (or similar reports) and try to add a column for "Payroll Transaction:Workplace:(anyfield)" it throws an unexpected error.

Any ideas on how I can get the Workplace grouping to work around this bug?
