Extremely slow

Yesterday and today our checkout process seem to take a long time -- we have had customer calling saying once the submit button is clicked, it just spins for a while before the actual confirmation page is recorded.  We are having lag times on the backend as well.  Just to load a sales order it took 12.5 seconds.  Server 9.723 (78.97%), Network 1.134 (9.21%), Client 1.455 (11.82%).  Anyone else experiencing this slowdown?
