Child Matrix items - Failure to create

I have created (imported) a set of Parent Matrix items and now want to import the Child Matrix items. I have tried the following so far.

I have used the Internal ID of the Parent Matrix Item. I have used the Name/Number of the Parent Matrix item, being sure to format it with both the Name and the Display Name. And I have used the External ID of the Parent Matrix Item. Each time making sure to set the reference type in the mapping screen to the correct reference type. The CSV import of the Child Matrix Items is of the same type (Non-inventory For Sale) as the existing Parent Items.
