Partner Module Causing Significant Load Time Increase

Our instance has the partner module installed which adds a series of fields to create a distributor, reseller, end user customer hierarchy. We've noticed some significant performance issues over the last year and today I identified a [potential] bug with the channel tier field when referenced via a search join.

The 'Channel Tier' field controls the hierarchy level of a customer record; when this field is referenced via a saved search join using 'Parent Client Fields..." it causes a tremendous amount of load time in suitescript and the UI. I have tested this with additional joins to the same record, however that field is the only one that provides a significant load time increase. Here's the suitescript code that led me to find the error:
