Using the backflush feature in Manufacturing

So in NetSuite, the backflush operation combines the work order issue and work order completion into one record. Thats pretty much as far as it goes in NetSuite.

My question is can backflush be performed at any other operating task (besides the first one) and if so how? What are the best practices when it comes to using backflush in NetSuite? All help appreciated.
