Negative Number Format not reflecting in email template

Hi,

We created a customized email template where we showing an item and its discount. The discount is a negative number and is shown as ($100) but should show as -$100. When looking at the Company and Subsidiary preferences Negative Number Formatting is set to -100. Is this a bug or is there an other location were the Negative Number formatting in the e-mail template is controlled?
