Custom Records tied to Customer Records

I need to load New Custom records tied to Customers that have already been loaded into Netsuite. Could some one help me as to how do I reference the parent customer record.

For a few records I downloaded the entity Id and then used that to Upload the custom records. but that seems to be a foolish way to do it. Is there a better manner to upload or update Custom records??

Please Help!!
