Exporting to excel and uploading reworked data

Has anyone had success downloading tasks or similar data into excel, working with it offline and then uploading the revised data into Netsuite?

I am trying to work out if this is something we can set up ourselves through Netsuite or whether we should find a third party solution.

Is anyone currently using a third party solution that they are happy with?
