Packing Slip Customization Weirdness

I've been having problems modifying a customized packing slip (PDF Layout) over the last day or two. 

1) When I modify and save the packing slip (which is specified as the preferred layout), it doesn't seem to have any effect when I print using that layout on the "print packing slips".  But, if I select the Standard Layout instead, (which should not be editable), it reflects all the changes that I made to my custom Layout!

2) The "Packing Slip Message" specified in the Printing Preferences page of Company Setup seems to get printed in the "Disclaimer" section of the packing slip.  Support tell me that the message from the sales order goes into the "Message" section.  Is this correct behavior?
