Inventory Adjustment Out w/ Adv. Bin/SN Management Enabled

Has anyone scripted an inventory adjustment of product out of inventory when advanced bin/serial number management is enabled? I'm running into an issue with the Quantity field on the inventoryassignment sublist of the inventorydetail subrecord on the adjustment line items. When I set the value to -1 for quantity, I receive the following error:

com.netledger.common.exceptions.NLUserError: You have entered an Invalid Field Value -1.0 for the following field: quantity

When doing adjustments in, everything works beautifully. Tried taking the value out and hoping for a default, but doesn't work as the sublist doesn't get committed correctly.
