Replacing NetSuite stock error messages with custom ones

Hello,

Is there a way to replace the stock NetSuite UI error messages (such as for duplicate contact creation) with our own custom messages? I asked NetSuite Support and they referred me to enhancement 202922... but this refers to calendar events and I am unsure if it refers to all stock error messages...
