Field Sourced from Fulfillment to Sales Order

I have a custom transaction column field called Tracking number that is on the Sales documents and Item Fulfillment.  I would like to have this field filled out at the point of fulfillment and that would populate the Sales Order.  The issue is I cannot get it to work that way.  I can fill out the field on the Sales Order and it will populate the fulfillment automatically but not the other way around.  Does anyone know of a way to get this field to source from the Fulfillment?
