Margin Field

I created a new Transaction Column Field called Margin to put on our sales orders to calculate the items margin. I made it a percent and gave it the default value of the formula (({unitprice} - {averagecost})/{unitprice})*100 but when I go to the sales order it says "ERROR: Field 'unitprice' Not Found" i'm guessing because an item hasn't been added yet.

How can I set this field up so that it calculates the margin when an item is entered?
