Freemarker custom records and formatting

Hello,

2 questions please:

1- Are custom record fields supported using the new scriptable email templates (I know they used to be)? If not how can I automate email templates from custom records?
2- How do you format in freemarker? E.g. I have a field that shows 1234736 in NetSuite but 1,234,736 in the email. I'd like to convert to integer without the commas. I tried <${transcaction.somebodyfield}?string("0") >
