Editing and Deleting Instance in Recurring Event via Script

Has anyone ever managed, via SuiteScript to edit an instance or delete an instance of a recurring event (not the entire series)? You can do so within the UI, but I've had mixed results doing it via script. There looks to be a field called "exclusiondate" that stores the exclusions. If I add one date in there via script, it handles properly for a delete. Adding more than one date, it generates an error. This would, of course, handle deletions although edits would be similar.
