Customers in version 11 - company vs individual

I've seen the new company vs individual type on the customer record and really like the change. 

My question is, how will our existing records look when they come up in version 11.  How will it know whether to set them as company or individual type.  Wondering if anyone from Netsuite or someone who already has V11 live can shed any light on this transition.  Thanks.
