How to convert Lead to Contact?

Hello, I'm sure there is a simple solution to this question, just staring me in the face, but I have to ask:

How can I convert a Lead to a Contact?

I don't even want to convert this person, but it seems I have no choice.  In order for me to add this person as a contact in a new customer's record, they have to be listed as a "contact" or they don't show up on the list to select from.

I am frustrated by this because this person will then drop off the Lead list, which is where he needs to be in oder to receive targeted mailings.
