Using the Knowledge Base externally?

There were some discussions in the old user group about the Knowledge Base being too inflexible for external use because of the way it displays its data. Unless I'm missing it, there hasn't been any progress made in v.11 towards controlling the KB articles externally. Has anyone come up with any workarounds that offer more control over how Solutions are displayed in their web site?

KB_Mgr -- is there anything on the roadmap that will give us greater ability to control the list layout and/or which fields show up when viewing a solution through the web site?
