Paremt-Child Limits in v2007

We're looking at integrating a new distribution channel as a "bill-to" parent of many of our current direct B2B customers.  However, in old threads, I had read something about there being a limit of parent-child of about 2,000 records.  We need over 4,000.  So, I am just curious if there's any news with v2007 whether this limitation still exists (or if it was even real in the first place).
