Mass Update Formula not working in 2009.1

I tried using the new formula field on Mass Updates.  The formula I entered was {today}  (I also tried using the {date} field on the record incase the 'today' function doesn't work in this context.)

Upon preview it returns the error "An unexpected error has occurred. Please click here to notify support and provide your contact information."

This is a saved mass update that has been working for a long time (I used to manually run it and change the date everytime).
