Dynamic Default Shipping Costs w/ Custom Code

Hi,

We are looking for a way to use a dynamic default shipping cost based on what is carried in the item record.

Currently each item record has one standard field for a flat rate "Shipping Cost" and one field for a flat rate "Handling Cost".  The issue is that using the "Shipping Cost" only gives you the option to have ONE shipping Cost for each item record which assumes that there is only one price to ship each product. 

What we need is a way to have a shipping cost on each item for each of the shipping methods we offer.  For example an item might cost 8.00 to ship via UPS Ground and the same item would cost 25.00 to ship via UPS Next Day.
