Customize packaing slip with more info

We would like to add a column to the packing slip that would show the status of every line item in that shipment.  There are times when we partial ship an order, drop ship part of it, then go back later and ship the rest of it.  Something like:

Already Shipped
Ship now
Ship later
Back Ordered
Drop shipment

This may help customers better understand what they are getting, have already got or what will come from somewhere else.  It would reduced CS calls we get from confused customers .

Anybody else looking for a solution like this?  Are having the same issue?
