Fulfill closed sales orders

When looking in the que for orders to be fulfilled, sales orders that we have closed are showing up.  i double checked the sales order and it is indeed closed.  If i do fulfill the sales order (which I can only do through the que not from the sales order itself) it changes my inventory to negative 1 (this was originally for a drop shipment).  Anyone have any idea why it would be showing up in the fulfillment que?
