Same sales order number auto-filled through all trans.

Is there any way to auto-populate subsequent transactions (i.e. sales order>fullfillment>invoice) using same sales order number from start of order to completion? The only time we change the sales order number is when we are doing additional shipments and then we just manually change it to have a -01 for shippment number.  Currently we're doing manual change of order number to mathc original sales order number.  Thanks!
