Customize VSOE to use a different product price

We developed a script to calculate the price of an item which is an upgrade cost to a product.  Without VSOE, the script works fine.  But once the VSOE buttons are selected, the script doesn't seem to be working.

Is it because the VSOE module takes over at that point and and selects the default price of item?

Any way to get VSOE to run a script to calculate a specific item cost?
