Advanced Shipping - date not updating when stage changes

We use  the advanced shipping module, i.e. pick, pack & ship.
When the warehouse picks an order the fulfillment is assigned a date.
Then when it is marked packed, and subsequently shipped, that original date is carried throughout.

This is very bad for us. We do a lot of custom work on product. We screen print and sew on uniforms etc... therefore sometimes we pick an item, but do not actually ship it for 2 weeks.

Now here's the problem. When we do our end of month analysis, we compare the cost of sales and profit on orders to make sure everything jives.
