Order Number Reference Number in Shipment is IF Number?

When choosing "Order Number" in my shipping label preferences area, I assumed that the label would be populated with the sales order number but to my surprise that the item fulfillment # is instead put in its place.  Is there any updates if/when we would be able to use the sales order number instead?
