Canadian Version Shipping options

I am finding that integrated shipping for Canadian version is a bit behind the US as far as options go.  I created another thread that has gotten no responses yet, asking if something were even possible, https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/showthread.php?t=9513  however, I am now stepping back to a bit more general. 

Can anyone help me understand the integrated options that are available for Canadian NS to ship internationally?  Any solution providers or anyone else who has come up with a way to deal with the current limitations?  Are all Canadian companies simply dealing with the painful, time consuming work of shipping manually?
