Accurate Shipping Estimates for Drop Ship Items

Has anyone figured out a way to accurately estimate the shipping charges for drop ship items from your web store when your drop shippers are spread around the country? 

It seems NetSuite allows one "ship from" address per carrier account (UPS, FedEx) from which to calculate shipping fees and this doesn't give accurate estimates when the real "ship from" is not in that same area.  One suggested solution is to set up a location for each drop shipper, then map each location / drop shipper to a carrier account, associate inventory items that are drop shipped with the location and then theoretically, the "ship from" location would match that of the drop shipper.  Has anyone tried this or anything like it?  I believe this would also have fulfillment implications
