Special Order Items with Available Stock

Hi

We have a number of items that we only purchase on the back of a sales order so I was hoping that I would be able to use the Special Order functionality to raise purchase orders for them. However occasionally we do accept returns of these items and therefore could find ourselves in the situation where we have available stock. Unfortunately I cannot find anyway of committing this available stock to the next sales order for that item. Instead a new linked PO is always raised and even if I then delete the PO I still can't get the available
