Packages Tab: Reference 1 and 2 Error

Netsuite does not automatically populate the Reference #1 and the Reference #2 fields for the first package in an item fulfillment. Having added the first package, Netuite automatically populates those fields for any subsequent package, which is mostly useless to us since we usually only ship one package per item fulfillment.

Does anyone else have this problem or better yet a solution?
