Unable to 'receive' item on drop ship PO when order has been amended

Can anyone help please? We input a sales order for drop ship items. This creates the PO to the supplier. A day or so later we find out that an item is not available so the customer agrees to take an alternative. We manually change the sales order. We then manually change the purchase order. So far so good.

When the goods are shipped, we can fulfil the amended item on the sales order side, but since this item is no longer linked to the purchase order side, we have to manually 'receive' the item on the purchase order. The problem is that we can't. The 'receive' button does not show, instead the 'mark shipped' button shows as it would with a PO that is linked to the SO. When using the 'mark shipped' feature, it only allows us to mark as shipped any items that were on the original order, it does not allow us to mark as
