Disabling media mail for certain products?

As I'm sure everyone who offers USPS's Media Mail shipping method on their store knows, you aren't supposed to ship "non-media" items with it. About half of our products qualify, such as movies and video games, but the other half of our products, including apparel, collectibles, etc. do not qualify as "media" items. Media Mail is our most popular shipping method because of its affordable rates, but we suffer significant losses by offering it, since customers choose it for non-media items (which either get returned to our warehouse or upgraded to more expensive shipping on our tab).
