Serialized Inventory Commited

Is there any way to "uncommit" a serialized inventory.  The Sales Order that the item was committed to was deleted and we are trying to fulfill a different SO with this serial #.  I've even gone as far as deleting the Item Receipt from the PO that received this serial number and recreating it.  The Serial Number still shows a status of Committed.
