Using {shipMethod} in an email message isn't working

When I use {shipMethod} in an email message, the end user gets...  "ERROR: Field Not Found".  It is a tracking message that is generated from a scheduled saved search.  {trackingnumbers} for the tracking number works fine, but the {shipMethod} doesn't.  It is set-up to  generate an email that says...

Items that you've ordered have shipped via {shipMethod}.

The customer gets...
Items that you've ordered have shipped via ERROR: Field Not Found.
