Paperless Order Processing

Does anyone have experience with implementing a paperless system for processing orders in a light manufacturing environment? 

Our idea is to provide tablets to employees that would list the orders to be process which would link to pick ticket and or work order or bill of material as needed. 

I would like to collect certain information along the way to include shipping weights and measurements.
