Adding notes to each row on a transfer order

I wanted to add notes to each row on a transfer order. I created a custom field to add as a column in screen and print fields. But I couldn't make it show up. I contacted support and they said this is an enhancement. Is this really an enhancement?? I thought I wouldn't have any trouble customizing the form and adding a notes column.
