Multi-tier Lot Code Hiererarchy?

Hello,

We're looking into whether there is a way to create a two level lot coding system. We sell food items that have a production date and 1 to many reprocessing dates. We now use lot codes that have two segments to capture both of these dates (it is 17 digits long) which is working ok, but we're looking to simplify if we can so that it is easier to manage for our warehouses and customers. One Idea we had was to make a master lot code / sub lot code structure. Ive searched through Help but only found Bin support.
