Reporting on Inventory in a Kit

I can't seem to get an accurate report to show how much of an item I've sold that is in a kit.

For example, I have item S1.  S1 is several kits.  At the end of the month I want to know how many S1's I've sold, in and out of a kit.  But there doesn't seem to be a way to ask for that.  I can find out how many kits I've sold, but this is painful because different kits have different amounts of item S1.

Please, can somebody help with this!
