Displaying User Notes in Search

Hello, I have created a search displaying customers that meet certain criteria.  In that search I would also like to display the most recent user note on that customer that was entered by a particular person (if there is one).  However, I still want the customers to be included in the search if there isn't a user note by that author.  I've tried using a filter but that only returns the customers that have a user note by that author.  What I need is show me customers that meet my criteria and if a certain person has posted a user
