Lookup field in Report

Good afternoon!  This is my first post for help.  How exciting!:eek:
I need some help on how I...

Want a report that will filter only on a requested parent product.  Another words the report asks me to put in parent item #, and then the report brings up all child items only.  This is for inventory value.   Whenever I put in the filter it wants a static  answer then right then. I need something like dates only for parent name. I need the report to open and then ask for the information as the request will change frequently and our end users don't have time to learn reporting functionality.
