Customer who bought 'item a' within timeframe who is not an opt-out

I want to send manual emails and need a report showing me the name and email address of customers who bought a certain item within a set time frame who have their global subscription status not equal to an opt-out. 
I can't seem to get this.  I can run a sales report and get everything except the subscription status or I can run a saved customer search and get everything except the time frame the item was purchased. 
Seems like I must be missing a simple step?
