Profitability Running total

Hello all

   I want to write a search/report that will do a query on the profitability of a users captured sales orders and supply me with a running total of the profitability daily. 

   So it should look something like this,
01/01/2011  100  100
02/01/2011  150  250
03/01/2011  275  525
.
.
.
31/01/2011  300  XXX

I have all the fields to perform the search on and I can get a grand total out but it is the running total I am struggling with.

Can someone please help me.  And if there was someway to show this in a KPI, that would be great.
