Data between forms

Hi,

I'm trying to enter text in a filed, hit a button and have it populate a field on another form.

I know that I'm asking for something very vague, but if someone can please just give a quick explanation as to what I'll need to do, what API's etc, I can go to sleep tonight.  Just nudge me in the right direction.
