sales by item

I have been asked to put together a report/saved search that can show anyone the total sales of a small group of items, 4 SKUs in all.  It is a fairly new item so my boss wants to track how sales of it are going.  He wants to be able to put in a period of days/weeks/months/quarters and see how many units and for how much revenue we have sold.

This seems really simple to me on its face, but I am having no luck gettign it to work as a saved search so far.

Any help is appreciated.
