Saved Search Formula for Date as Number

Maybe I'm missing it in other threads, but I am having trouble converting a date to the numerical value (i.e. like Excel does, '41610').

I've used to_number, but the results are blank.

The date is currently formatted as MM/DD/YYYY.

Can anyone tell me the formula to return date as a number?
